Importing Distributor Products

Distributor Mode can be used during product import when several rows in the import file represent the same product from different distributors.

When Distributor Mode is selected, the import can use the selected match field to identify products that should be grouped together. Matching products are imported as one product with multiple distributor options.

Before you import

Prepare the import file with the product information you normally use, together with distributor-specific information.

Useful distributor fields include:

  • Distributor: the distributor for the row.
  • Distributor SKU: the distributor's product number.
  • Stock: the stock quantity for the distributor.
  • Stock Status: the availability status for the distributor.
  • Cost Price: the provider's cost from the distributor.
  • Retail Price: the selling price for the distributor option.

Import behavior

When Distributor Mode is enabled during import:

  • Products with matching values in the match field can be grouped into one product.
  • Each distributor row becomes a distributor option on the grouped product.
  • Products that do not match an existing product are created as new products.

When Distributor Mode is not enabled, the import works as a standard product import and products are not grouped by distributor.

Distributor SKU

Distributor SKU is separate from the product's main SKU and Vendor SKU.

  • SKU identifies the product in your catalog.
  • Vendor SKU identifies the product from the vendor or manufacturer.
  • Distributor SKU identifies the product from a specific distributor.

Using Distributor SKU makes it easier to process orders, communicate with distributors, and confirm that the correct distributor item is selected.
